Do You Charge a Consultation Fee?

It depends:

Estate Planning.  For estate planning matters, we generally charge a $150.00 consultation fee.  (There may be an additional fee if you are asking us to review existing estate planning documents, especially one or more trusts.)

We will probably discuss estate planning options at your consultation, and we will tell you what each would cost at that time.  We offer estate planning services on a flat-fee basis.  We do NOT charge a percentage of the estate.  Our fees are based on the work we do, not the value of the assets.  We will credit your consultation fee to any complete estate plan you have us do within 30 days.

Probate and Estate Administration.  We charge a $150.00 consultation fee.  This fee is waived if we drafted the estate plan (will, trust, etc.) and you are the trustee or executor, it is the first consultation, and the documents we drafted have not been altered by anyone else since being put in place.

If you ask us to assist further with administration, we will go over the costs with you at that time.  Note that we do NOT charge a percentage of the estate.  Our fees are based on the work we do, not the value of the assets.

Business Matters.  For business matters, including entity selection and formation, transfer of ownership, dissolution (whether or not due to insolvency), contracts, etc., we generally charge a base $150.00 consultation fee.  (There may be an additional fee if we must review documents in order to advise you.)

We offer most business services on a flat-fee basis.  We may discuss options at your consultation, and we will tell you what each would cost at that time.  We will usually credit your consultation fee to any such work we do within 60 days.

Guardianship.  We charge a $150.00 consultation fee to discuss options to establish a guardianship.  If you retain us to bring the petition within 30 days we will credit your account for $100.00 of the consultation fee.

If the guardianship is already established and we must review documentation to provide the advice sought, there may be an additional fee to review the documents.

Elder Law Issues other than Estate Planning/Guardianship.  We charge a $150.00 consultation fee, though it may be higher if we must review extensive documents to provide the advice.  For a Medicaid Planning session, we charge $200.00.
